Lawn Care Technician - 2016

Harrington’s is seeking a qualified lawn care technician that has an education in turf management or a minimum of 2-3 years experience in the landscape industry. Good people skills are a must, as we take pride in our outstanding customer service. Applicants must possess Turf and IPM skills in the identification of insects, weeds and disease of turf. Must have or obtain a CT Pesticide applicators license and/or CT Supervisory License. Applicant must have a clean driving record and pass a DOT physical. Heavy lifting is required, must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Technician will be operating a spray truck and applying both liquid and granular products including liquid compost, botanical and biological insecticides. Individuals must be professional energetic team players and interested in learning about organic and ecological plant care. PHC Technician - 2016

We are seeking a qualified plant health care technician that has an education in horticulture or a minimum of 4-5 years experience in the horticultural industry. Good people skills are a must, as we take pride in our outstanding customer service. Applicants must possess PHC/IPM skills in the identification of native plants, insects and diseases of ornamental trees and shrubs. Must have or obtain a CT Pesticide applicators license, CT Supervisory License or CT Arborist preferred. Tree & Shrub pruning skills are also required for Plant Health Care Technicians. Technician will be operating a spray truck and applying liquid and granular products including compost teas, botanical and biological insecticides. Applicant must have a clean driving record and pass a DOT physical. Heavy lifting is required, must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Individuals must be professional energetic team players and interested in learning about organic and ecological plant care. L.B.A Center and Laboratory Technician - 2016

Applicants who have an interest in science, horticulture or agriculture and who have a passion for organic/environmentally beneficial approaches to land care are preferred. The technician will be primarily responsible for managing the L.B.A. center and will also assist with chemistry and biological soil testing. This job requires a person who is organized, can manage own work schedule, pays close attention to detail, can work in a physical environment and lift heavy loads, and who can vigilantly maintain a clean work environment.

General Job Description

L.B.A. (Liquid Biological Amendment) Center:
• Process vermicompost and bark mulch compost, including picking up and storing food for worms, feeding worms, maintaining appropriate compost moisture and temperature, dropping and sifting soil, and transferring vermicompost into totes or bulk bags.
• Process L.B.A. and maintain appropriate supplies of L.B.A. for in-house and vendor needs. Maintain a schedule of L.B.A. deliveries and be available to fill delivery tanks.
• Ensure that the shop and all compost/L.B.A equipment are cleaned regularly and are properly disinfected.
• Maintain records of compost and L.B.A. production, and of shop cleaning and disinfection.
• Operate machinery like front end loaders and tractors properly and safely.

Chemical & Biological Soil Testing:
• Receive samples and complete log-in and sample preparation.
• Perform all sample testing requested by clients, following lab protocol.
• Record data in spreadsheet or database.
QUALITY ASSURANCE & LAB SAFETY
• Complete regular Quality Assurance tests for compost, L.B.A. and other products we apply or sell to clients.
• Follow appropriate quality assurance protocol to ensure integrity of soil testing data.
• Ensure all equipment is calibrated and working properly. Record any inconsistencies.
• Understand and follow standard lab safety measures and use equipment properly.

The goal is to become LABORATORY RESEARCHER/DIRECTOR which usually takes 2-3 years
